It's a double sided PCB, you solder on the top, then trim the leads below.
For ICs you must use machine sockets as they leave just enough metal exposed to solder. Radial lead electrolytic are tricky as you must leave a little lead space or remove the board and solder them last.

Hi blueroomelectronics

Do you have available the PCB that you promised me for free? I have not intent to put pressure on you, but I already desire to have and test my PK2.
I hope not cause a nuisance.

Thanks and your final product looks impressive.

Yep your's is a clone including the VDD clamp and adjustable VDD generator. I never said it was a bad design, I just said it's only $5 cheaper than a genuine PICkit 2 from Microchip. I personally would not build a clone of a kit if it was only a couple of dollars different in price than the real McCoy. Adding value to the design is the way to go IMHO, so I took my popular Firefly kit which was $45, removed the ZIF socket, updated the Target PIC to an 18F series so you can use the excellent and free C18 Student Edition C compiler (Much better than any of the limited edition 12/16 series C compilers) and added a 5V only version of the PICkit 2 but otherwise compatible. Of course the Programmer and Tutor can be run independent of each other. IE the Programmer / Debugger supports external targets via either the 2x5 ICD or 6 pin AUX connector.
My target audience is typical of most forum users, Students, Hobbyists, Experimenters, Teachers.
Most beginners wanted both a programmer and a project, so that's what it does and does well.

1. Size compare with ICD2..........
Funny :D

Hi funnynypd
I not try to offend but your desing and your case seems to me a little ugly compared to original pickit2 or junebug.

Enjoy the kit, everything was perfect for a first run PCB. Except I've got the Target LED indicating the reverse from the true PK2, does not affect operation; so I'll document it and that'll be that.

Hi blueroomelectronics.

:| :D

My bare board arrived now . I thought that not sent it, but I'm in mistake. You shipped it in the same day when I give you my address.

In this moment I am opening the package, your desing is very arranged, I like the blue solder mask and then I see that the silkscreen is very explicit.

Thanks for all Blueroomelectronics, now is time to find some parts and then build my Junebug. And later to do my full review with pics.

junebug (pickit2)

Hi blueroomelectronics.

I have got my bare junebug PCB and thanks for indluding those sil resistors

I must say the board looks very professionally liad out and the silk screen is very clear, I've downloeded your assy manual had a read through it and I must say verly nicely laid out and really easy to follow.

I thought I had all of the parts for it, but I found out that I was the 2 mosfets short which I have ordered them so they should be here soon,

I already have a project lined up to test the programmer part out and debug if need be( which no doubt I will :D)

But what i really like is that I can run a 18F1320 at the same time which is very good saving me time building up a sperate board for the TX unit and also I can do my A/D conversion before TX'ing my data

I'll keep you informed on progress I make

You can hook it up without the fets, it should connect but show a VDD error. Use the PICkit 2 software as it has the diagnostics and the name your programmer functions.
You'll really find the UART tester built into the PICkit 2 software handy.

Hey Blueroom,

You make a good point, but some people (like myself) just like to build things. :D
BTW, great job on the Junebug.

Thanks Blueroom, follow your documents guide I downloaded from your WEB, I had successfull with PICKit2. I do it by my self. Thanks

Glad you got it, have fun.

Hi blueroomelectronics.
Lamentably, I have not enough time to make my review for your board, I have so much work in these days. I build it and all works perfect, the only problem that I have is to find pack resistors, but I build it with singles ones.
Thanks for all and soon I make my review with some pictures of my final board.

Regards and Merry christmas
