I think Mazidi second edition is the best one more than scot mckenzie, as it has a lot of simple examples which are very useful for biggeners. in this book it has explained all the matter and parts of 8051. you can take help from www.8052.com

I would suggest the book by mazidi, it is excellent book for the begginers as it has explained each and every thing of 8051 nicely with assembly code examples. I have ever seen such a nice book. januar1983 you are right that 8051 is not as good as avr but for the begginers it is better to start with 8051, avr is for experienced programmers.

I've learned 8051 from scott mcKenzie "8051 Microcontroler", it's really helpfull. if you want learn more about microcontrolers, i suggest you to try AVR microcontroler using Code Vision AVR. It really easy to use....

You can read " Microcontrollers and EMBEDDE SYSTEMS " by mazdi & mazdi. It is in assembly. OR u can go for C&8051 by Thomas schultz.
But MAZDI & MAZDI is simple to understand.

That is not always the case. Some of the 8051 MCUs I have used kicked everything else's ass. BUT i would agree that the 8051 is not a perfect MCU for every application, but then again nothing ever really is.
