I have never found a proper simulator for 8051. Can MPLAB IDE from Atmel be used as a 8051 simulator? What device must I select to get a 100% compatable 8051?

mplab ide is not from atmel
its the ide from microchip for their pic microcontrollers
that cannot be used fot 8051 based microcontrollers

And is there no 8051 based controller supported by MPLAB IDE.

MPLAB IDE or anything else, I am looking for some sort of an 8051 simulator.

better to read "The 8051 Microcontroller and Embedded Systems" It is written by "Muhammad Ali Mazidi" and "Jnice Gillipsie Mazidi". u can understand very easy

i think 8051 microcontroler by scot mckenzie is good for beginer because my university used it to learn the microcontroller, but 8051 is the bad microcontroller i suggest you to use avr, cause more flexible in programing and the feature from the micro
