The PICkit2 can only supply about 100ma to the target. Try powering the target with a power supply.

how to program the pic18f46k20

Hi Friends
I made the original design as is in the manual of PICKIT2 from Microchip, but have some problem with the control of the voltage VDD, it can not control as well as say the manual, I found some problem in the input of the Opam MCP6001, I have changed the input from negative to positive, but still the hardware looks donot work OK, or there is some "mistake" in the circuit.........helpme please...
Of course this work normally with 5 volts (CAN CONTROL VDD on/off, But canot control voltage VDD from 2,5 to 5 volts), .....

One more, I tried to debug some ASM file, somes It Can do normally, but some others canot,
For example, I used ICD2 to debug some test and it does, but when I try with PICKIT2, it can not do....I think PICKIT2 is good as programmer, but still need some fix for debugger option as ICD2 .....

Would you please measure the voltage on your U2 Pin3 and Pin4?

I see,
voltage in the input of the Opam is around 2.5 volts, and it change when I changed the voltage in the screen of Pickit2, in the output the voltage change, but no change acording the input, it change from 0 to 5, no step by step, it change as a comparator Opam.
And when I open software Pickit2 it say, check voltage at VDD, I tried to do some changes, changed the input of the opam, but still no work, .....
I donot know where is the problem,,,

This sounds like the U2 got some issue.
THe MCP6001 and MCP6001U are chips with different pin-out, make sure it is connected correctly. Also pay a little attention on the power supply pin and ground pin.

If all above correct connection are verified. The last thing you can try is: get a new/good MCP6001U and replace the one on your board. the old one on your board may already be damaged.

There is so many diferent types of MCP6001, I changed too for a new one, but the result is the same, T tried with diferent configuration, but still no works......big problem, I like to be sure if the circuit of Microchip is good as is, or there is some trick....

icd3 problem stop

THe MCP6001U sure is different than the MCP6001 on Pin1, 3 and 4.

No doubt on the PICkit2 schematic.

I AM USING IRLML6402, same as the circuit, I Have tested it and works ok, I got all original ICs and Transistors, as the design of Microchip, that my doubt about the circuit, .........I donot know what to do, finally, I will try to asemble in protoboard, but I haved checked the PCB, and it is good......:|

16f676 pickit 2 connection

if you can use the "PICKit2 programmer" software set the output voltage as 3.5V under trouble-shoot, and check the voltage on C8, you should get about 1.82V. Same voltage should be on Pin3 of MCP6001U.


If pin 3 is normal, please check the voltage on following resistors: R31, R26, R6 and R5.

Please take a volt measurement on both end of these resistors to GND.
We will see what you got. :)

I found my mistake
I bought several IRLML6402, when I solder one, it was no same number, and it donot work like IRLML6402, when I changed with a new one, it works OK,

Did you get any more good luck with the PIC18F2553 chip? It would be important for other people who also want to try your approach.

Probably we can ask someone who has the chip, either in your country or in the countries nearby, send you some, and see what's going on.

hi funnynypd, regarding your pickit 2 schematic, for aux pin there is a 4.7k ohm pull down resistor(for future). but when we need to program the eeprom(24lc), the sda line must pull up right?so is that 4.7k ohm resistor affects the aux data line during program/ reading?

who success read/program 24lc eeprom? is there any connection difference between fast programming and without fast programming?

thanks for your answer. if like that i suggest you to pull up the resistor instead of pull down so that no resistor pull up on the 24lc side anymore.

please remember to share your testing result. i think i will also test is using my microchip pickit 2.
