A visual description of the transducer behaviour.The "slur" is caused by it ringing like a bell because it is resonant (small bandwidth). It takes time to ramp up its output when it starts then it keeps ringing for a while when it should stop.
Typically a short burst with rectangular envelope is send to the transmitter, after passing two transducers the received envelope has probably a complex shape with multiple maxima. Thus it's no so easy to derive an unique trigger criterion for the received waveform.
