dc motor can be driven by using a h-bridge (L293D)

Or use its equivalent, SN754410, which can load 1000mA

TPIC0108, from ti, is perfect too --> 3A continuous current, 2 inputs : PWM and Sens ( no requiere external logic ), 2 status outputs...
