ink left on the soldermask

Hi Everyone,

I get some defective PCB boards. There is some ink left on the soldermask.
Is there any way to remove the residue?
Or will the residue affects the function of my boards?

I don't think this should affect your board, but have you talked to your PCB vendor? That would have been my first stop, rather than a bunch of strangers on the internet.

I agree with you Barry. I think that residue should not affect the boards. If the quantity is very few, you can accept or talk with your PCB vensor to give you some discount.

I don't see it as ink offhand. I'd need some angles and light-play
to say it isn't some other kind of raggedy. If these are subject to
inspection I expect they'll be flagged and your question is how to
rework on the low-down cheap. I'd recommend rather that you
work a RMA with whoever sold you these not-quite-pristine boards
and insist they do a rework that meets whatever spec you bought
them to.

On the other hand if you got them out of the scrap bin by way of
your lunchbox and think you can give them a quick wipe and put
them on eBay, I have no advice for you.

If the "ink" is actually ink, where did it come from? Maybe a QC
inspector's pen? Is it meant to show that the boards are in fact
unacceptably poor quality "right there!"?

I think this residue is left from the goldfingers. It affects the appearance of PCBs.
