Radar it's simple.
You can use a magnetron of microwave and a small receiver at 2.4ghz
If you want a doppler radar, you must use a stable oscillator for emitter.
Beaucause the doppler signal IF (I and Q) must be applied at two phase comparator with a local oscillator (phase of this must be the same of emission).
The result is a image of doppler frequency.
Your range is ¼ law of power,sensitivity and τ (emitter pulse duration).
Your antenna and receiver must be sensible for far targets and support lot of power
near zone.
