What is the difference between a closed slot and an open slot in antenna design? How does a closed slot or an open slot help to achieve a wide bandwidth?
An open slot antenna represents a slot antenna having one or more sides open. Designers claim that open slot antenna get better bandwidth (up to 50%) depending by the type of opening, by its shape, or by the feeding.
you might expect open slots to have lower fringe capacitance and hotspots for H-fields [A/m] but more sensitive to near-field reflections.
Others have used this technique to excite 2.6 to 12 GHz for 3 bands of wireless UWB antenna with "exciting" results.
