CPLD Softcore versus microcontroller

for applications needing flexibility and having continuous changes in designs according to new standards or protocols....use FPGAs ( u can't change the chip everyday, so u need it to be programmable)

but for control use MCU...where few functions are to be performed over and over in sequence according to stimuli applied

for heavy mathematical processing use a DSP

whether softcore or MCU ..depends on the IO required and the resources for the whole design...some MCU have peripherals already built-in....so u won't need to have some IP with the softcore to make these functions...and it would be better to use a MCU...u have to feel it:)
