Controlling AC load using IGBT

The second rectifier and switch make the shunt switch of a synchronous buck converter and are somehow necessary to recover the energy stored in the motor inductance. Otherwise it must be burned in a snubber.

But I agree that #14 is a mostly theoretical circuit concept with little practical purpose.
