Can't a digital meter show capacitor leakage? Or only analog meters?

If you have a 400 Volt Capacitor, and your meter is Only Applying a LOW VOLTAGE (Under 10 Volts) It Can't determine Leakage at the 400 Volt rating. Or Even at just 50 volts.

I have a Sencore, LC102 Capacitor and Inductor Tester.
It Tests ACTUAL Leakage with Voltages up to 1000 Volts.
It Also tests for Capacitance Value, ESR and Dielectric Absorbtion.

at my work they do test diodes using an analog meter set a RX1, Why is that?

Only because it doesn't need a Higher Range to give a Reading.

But after over 40 years of Designing, Manufacturing and Servicing, I PREFER the "DIODE TEST" on a Digital Meter.
In My Opinion, it gives a Better Indication of the Diodes operation.

Why do you like this more than using the ohms mode on the DVM meter to test diodes using an Ohm meter?

The AC voltage is Inverted by 180 degrees , you can see it on the oscilloscope but on my Fluke 87 meter it doesn't let me know if my AC voltage is out of phase or in phase

Which DVM meters do this ?

The Diode Test on a DVM, Gives the Foreward Voltage Reading.
This reading Should Match the Foreward Voltage as shown on the "Manufacturers DATA SHEET".

NO DVM that I know of will show Phase of AC.

If I am understanding you correctly:
If the Two Voltages are Series Connected IN Phase, It should be Double.
If series Connected, OUT of Phase, it should CANCEL and be close to Zero.

NO, ONE AC waveform, its just 180 degrees out of phase polarity ,

The AC waveform first cycle is the Negative cycle than the positive cycle

It's just 180 degrees out of phase polarity

So its just ONE AC waveform ONLY , just flip the polarity 180 degrees

Both Meters can show leakage, But Only at the LOW VOLTAGE that they supply.
This voltage is too LOW to give Conclusive Result for the Actual voltages of the capacitor.
So unless the capacitor is REALLY BAD, the test means NOTHING.

Probably because they stated before DMM's were available.
And they are stuck in their OLD WAYS.

Explain more about how you can test TUBES using a VOM or DVM?

testing the filter cap with a VOM

How do you test filter caps with a VOM or DVM?

Use a 20,000 Ohm / Volt VOM To test Tubes? why a 20K ohm Volt meter?
