Wireless speaker system

A "set" implies stereo?

I have heard about infrared stereo speakers a long time ago. Modern remote controls and compact fluorescent light bulbs would cause interference.
Don't use ultrasonics.

There are ICs that are FM stereo transmitters and the speakers can be connected to an FM radio.
