I recently bought a ultrasonic transmitter and receiver. I would just like to know if when it is driven by a pulse train would it emit in all directions? because my receiver is picking up what is being transmitted without delay when they are placed side by side.

Attached also is the worthless datasheet of the transmitter and receiver by the way:

transducer question

The sound will be directional, but there will always be some sound going in other directions - enough to detect at small distances. Also, diffraction will scatter the sound as it comes out of the transducer. And it will bounce off objects.

Re: transducer question

so the only way to not detect instantaneously what was transmitted is by increasing the distance between the transmitter and receiver right? because I want to detect the wave that bounces off objects.

Thanks for the reply BTW

transducer question

Distance will help, but I am not sure it will solve the problem. More normal is to ignore the received signal for a short period after firing the transmitter.

transducer question

Besides air sound, the unwanted coupling can be mediated by structure borne sound as well, e.g. if
both sensors are mounted on a common PCB. Electrical coupling is another path to be checked.
