Nobody MOURNED TRISCEND

I learn sometime ago that Triscend was acquired by XILINX . and xilinx decided to lock it and throw away the key ...
Why is that i decided to comment on this .. Well because the triscend line of products filled a void that is present once more .Triscent products were positioned somewhere bewteen the low cost CPLD and and the high end FPGA. Their line of SoC products was really remarkable .Their inexpensive products had a CPU + peripherals + FPGA .. all this for $7 in 100 pieces . Some wise guy might say YES .but with a XILINX you have it TOO .. No!! .. ..well yes you have it but with a massive investment of tools and every basic peripheral UART,TIMERS PORTS ,MAPPING CIRCUITRY ..Just to mention the basic ONES !. will cost you FPGA RESOURCES .. Those chips on top are very power HUNGRY , and FINALLY
to design a BOARD is a TIME CONSUMING HEAD ACHE ! i don't even mention the price .. around $130 for 100 pieces .. (They claim $30 ,, but they don't tell you that is for a Million pieces !) .
Triscend was a start up that pioneered in the System on chip field. They came up with a very inexpensive graphic development enviroment ( free for small designs) that contained hundred of hardware synthetised modules .. that you just drag and dropped ,and allow you to create powerful solutions with just very little manipulation . Their lines of products were two .One the E5 based on the 8051 core and the E7 based on the ARM7 core . So is easy to see that they really had a broad coverage of solutions.
So to me is a SAD news to know that they never had a chance in this economy of WAR .. only the STRONG survive and impose their VIEW and philosophy .. Triscend never GOT TO GO PUBLIC .. they tried to build a bussiness and to increase the price of the company .. 5 years later .. that was not going to happen ..so they were purchased by the BIG XILINX ..

You could at least check them out at
www.triscend.com

Re: Nobody MOURNED TRISCEND

I suggest you check out the Spartan 3 and the Microblaze 32 bit RISC in the EDK. You can get a kickass CPU with a massive amount of support peripherals and logic in a XC3S400 and still have 50% of it left over. And you're looking at $33 for 1off and $20 for 100off.

Hi eltonjohn

Dura lex, ced lex. That's not the first and for sure not the last of that kind of example.
