Why resistors and capacitors are called as passive component

Hi all,

Do you know why resistors and capacitors are called as passive components?

Becuase they dont require any power supply for them to operate. Thats why they are called passive

Passive : consumes power
Active : can generate power

Passive Components: components that do not amplify or switch signals.
Active Component: circuit element that switches the flow of current or has gain.
