Why is a circle/cycle defined to have 360 degree?? why not 300 or 500 or any other number...

Is this origin related to time..and months and years, rotation revolution etc ??

whats the correct relation then. ???

tks

Re: Why 360 degrees??

This goes back thousands of years to the philosophers who invented geometry. Those societies were not as impressed with numbers like 5 or 100.

Back then the six was thought to be a unique number because 1x2x3=1+2+3

Re: Why 360 degrees??

i think that it has to do with the judeo -christian culture instead .12 apostles or a dozen ,60 minutes or 4 dozens ,360 degrees or 30 dozen. A foot 12 inches ..
The 12 is embedded in all old metrics .
anyways that's i explained to a kid the other day .I felt tired to go adn look for the righ answer so i analized it .But may be i'm wrong .I hope the kid won't come back to harm me !!
