Hello,

I am attempting to understand UWB antenna operation. While reading "Basic Properties and Design Principles of UWB Antennas" - Wiesbeck et al. 2009, I came across a figure (fig 2) showing that antennas radiate the time-derivative of the input pulse. The paper does not explicitly explain why this happens, but it does point to "Antenna Characterization in the Time-Domain" - Shlivinski et al. 1997. The Shlivinski paper is completely over my head though!

Does anyone have a way of explaining why antennas radiate the time-derivative? Or perhaps a paper that explains this phenomena in simpler terms?

Another forum thread pointed to Funk et al. 1995, but this paper did not seem to explain this at all.

Please help! Thank you!
