I work in a company which deals with electronic digital voice recording systems. They always emphasize that proper earthing should be maintained and the warranty is void if the equipment is operated unearthed.

I don't get it. We operate computers in our home without having a separate earth point and they work fine. Since these recording systems are also basically LINUX based computers, why is it stressed to have a separate earthing point for them?

Ground current loops presumably - perhaps if you ask the company they will explain?

There is nothing written in the manuals and we just use these products. The items were bought around two to three years ago and there is no contact with the company since then.
