snslmgrd
I just reluctantly upgraded from official release 5.0v18 (I will call it v5.0r18) to 5.3v5 on RH80 Linux box.
To my surprise, the program failed to start, I did tweak the license a little bit to make the program happy but it still takes more than 30 seconds to see the main nTrace window fully showing up.
what I am happy about is that the program did run faster than the old version after being fully loaded but my old version takes no time to start comparing to the new version.
I did investigate the problem for some time and found that it is quite likely that the program is wasting its time trying to check out the license.
The user guide says that we should use >8.2a version of snslmgrd daemon and lmutil to be able to use the program, but I did succeed with the lmgrd8.0 with snslmgrd 8.2a.
Changing the lmgrd from 8.0 to 8.2 does not gain any performance as I discovered for now.
My question is, what the heck does the program (armed with the new flexlm 8.2+ engine) really do during the loadup process? Why it takes such a long time to start? What is difference between 8.2 and 6.1 in terms of performance?
Does anyone know if there is a Ethereal plugin (protocal analyzer) for flexlm Heart Beat protocal?
