If the PIC that you are using has a hardware usart you can use the HSEROUT command. Look up the data sheets from microchip. If you have the option to use the HSEROUT command definately use it. The same goes for the HSERIN command.
Yes you should use Hserin or Hserout (Hardware Serial out)
The routines for serin or serout make hardware emulation and are time consuming. The routines for Hserout only have to write some register at time to send data because the usart do all.
