pseudocomponent

I am trying to learn how to use the optimizer but I cannot find the .optparam pseudocomponent. I know that I do have PSPICE Advanced analysis package and that the optimizer is available.

Thanks,

Jae

Did you figure this out? I'm trying to follow the tutorial but it doesn't match the software I have.

As far as I know, there is no pseudocomponent required in running Orcad Optimizer.
May be you are referring to some other tutorial.
Can you post the link of tutorial ?

Yes, it's here: **broken link removed**

To set up the value of R1 as a parameter named R1Val
1 From Capture’s PSpice menu, choose Place Optimizer
Parameters to place an instance of the OPTPARAM
part.
2 Double-click on the OPTPARAM part, then click the
User Properties button.
3 Set R1val properties as shown in the Optimizer
Parameters dialog box.

Ok, now I see it.
The document you are referring is quite old (of year 2000). The Pspice Optimizer has been made more intuitive and simpler to use after that with different use model.

You can refer user guide, 4th chapter - **broken link removed**

I believe you are using recent release of Orcad (like 16.x).
You can refer example lying under - (<hier>/tools/pspice/capture_samples/advanls/rfamp ) to start and run the optimizer.

Ok, thanks. Newer version in C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.6_Lite\doc\pspaugca\pspaugca.pdf

Yes, 16.6 Lite.

You can refer example lying under - (<hier>/tools/pspice/capture_samples/advanls/rfamp ) to start and run the optimizer.

Is that the same as C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.6_Lite\tools\pspice\tutorial\capture\pspiceaa\rfamp ? I don't have anything else named rfamp.

Edit:

Ah, that example from the tutorial doesn't work. "This design requires licensed product and will not work with OrCAD Lite product option"

Cool. :/

Well, that was a waste of time. I got it to work, but the Lite version only optimizes one variable at a time, for one measurement at a time, and doesn't really optimize, it just picks 5 points at random and tells you which is best? Looks like the commercial version is extremely expensive, so I'll look into other solutions.

Qucs supposedly supports optimization.

Did you determine this out? I'm trying to adhere to the guide but it does not coordinate the application I have.
