What's the sense of SoPC ?

...I'd like to know the sense of embedding processors in so expensive FPGA's (and fighting a tough development process) considering that you may get the same processor for a few bucks ?

Hmm...there are other FPGA's than expensive...

Lattice LFEC20 at 40 Euros/pcs can run 10 Z80 CPU cores at over 70MHz (o;

Other issues are that you can incorporate periphals you need or you can do intensive math in hardware than in software (fft, dct etc.) and benefit from fast on-chip RAM blocks and see via JTAG what is happening inside your design (o;
