With a "normal" dc motor you can only control revolution and the torque. With a stepper motor you can "step" exactly a given angle. Further the stepper motor has the advantage of having a holding torque. The disadvantage of steper motor is the ability of missing steps. If you can desribe your task more in detail, I can help you choosing which to use.

First, a stepper motor is a DC motor.
If you refer to a DC motor, like a PC fan, it is inappropriate for usage in precision required applications.
Try a stepper motor! You can control it like a glove and with adequate frequencies
you won't need to bother about lost steps.

With the stepper you can usually avoid any type of feedback device usage.
Using very sophisticated chips from www.allegromicro.com, you can run stepper
as easy as simlple DC.

my task is to put a 5 Kg telescope on this motor & move it toward the target
i need an acceptable speed (not slow) & accurate posision ...
also what about tha mechanical system which will be used with the motor..

stepper motor vs dc motor torque

For mechanics. It is most expensive part of the work, especially for such a precise tool as telescope. If you want to make precise movements in both directions, you
need a special screw/nut pair. If only in one direction, then more simple mechanics can work. It is true both for DC and Stepper motors. Besides for DC you need to use an encoder.
For 5 kg load it is not difficult to have about 10 mm/sec movement with ramping and 2.5 for tracking.
For stepping motor driver you can use A3977 from Allegro or TMC246 from Trinamic.
