best network protocol?

hi guys
i want to take ur opinion on the best protocol to build a network on based on microcontrolers, especially if these r to be connected to a PC
please do post some useful documents if available.
thx

TCP/IP is a universal protocol. Microchip have a royalty free stack available for download using pic's.
Take a look at 'TCP/IP LEAN' by Jeremy Bentham.
