What type of motors is used with the edge guider of a web slitting machines ?

What type of motors is used with the photocell unit (edge guider) of a web slitting machines ?

Hydraulic systems are also used but right now i'm asking about the electrical system

These motors produce back & forth motion as the photo sensor demands ........

there's a resistor & capacitor connected externally (outside the housing of the motor) with the windings of that motor .......

It sounds as though its a DC motor with the voltage across it being reversed by a relay or electronic switch. If it is it will have two wires for its connections. To reverse a single phase AC motor, you need access to the start capacitor. So you need two wires for the run windings and two connections for the start windings with the start cap in series (4 wires). If its a "universal" motor with brushes then you need four wires (two for field and two for armature). If it is a three phase motor, there will be three wires, swopping over any two wires, reverses the direction of running.

there are 4 wires, pair of 2 winding shows 2 different sets of readings .........

I think it is universal motor ......... but how to confirm it ??
 

I don't think it has carbon brushes .......... I've never seen
 

If you slowly rotate the motor by hand if its got brushes, the resistance of the windings will "jump" as the brushes move from a commutator section to another one. If its got 4 wires and no brushes, then it must be some sort of AC motor or switched DC (AC with square waves!). Conventional single phase AC motors use a start capacitor in series with a start winding, which puts a big phase shif in the magnetic field to make sure the motor starts in the required direction, reversing this winding cause the motor to run in the oppersite direction. Its a fact that these motors are normally limited in the number of starts they do in a given time, as the start current will overheat the start windings. Once the motor has reached 80% or so of its speed a switch on its shaft will disconnect the start winding.

This type of applications ie. when continous positioning is needed,
in which the motor rotates and changes direction continuously
are commonly used so-called 1-phase reversible motors.

Impossible to say....
Those motor values depends on motor size.

Resistor value and type depends on motor size and how it is used.
( Is it current limiter or braking resistor )
Look machine manuals or manufacturers data for that.
 
its a green ceramic Resistor , cylindrical shape (long like a cylinder) .....
