Does anybody know what kind of power switches are good for wireless-controled Appliances at home?

For example, if I want to use remote control to control the power switches ON or OFF for DVD player, what is the device(MOSFET)/circuits to convert the signal from wireless signal receviers to turn on or off the POWER of the appliances.

your any suggestions are highly appreciated!

THanks
