it depends on your application area. if for telcom and network, c54xx is good and has lot sw support. for mobile, c55 should be good for enhanced power consumption. TI has OMAP platform. Oak and MOT dsp are also ok.
There is no such a thing as "better dsp processor". As have been said it depends on for what application you going to use that. TI's 54 mentioned before was very popular several years ago. It took off when Nokia started to use it for its cell phones (as a core). Now 54 model is obsolete - 55's replaced that. It has more features and consumes less power. For application which does not concern about power consumption: ADI BlackFin, Ti 64 or even Ti 67 (floating point processor - mainly for radars and big complex systems) have widely used.
