Failure to boot might also be caused by the detection of missing or nonfunctional hardware during the power-on self test (POST), like for example damaged hard disk, which will cause the PC to beep. Another possible cause is the BIOS wasn't able to detect any OS boot instruction at the hard disk master boot record.
