We need equilisation because,
* To reduce the higher order harmonics.
* To make the original signal faithful to the next block of the system.
* Pre-equalisation is done at the transmission end so that the signal sent is of the correct specification that the reciever needs.
* Post-equalisation is done at the reciever end so that the signal recieved is of correct specifications.

Hi Friend,
Detection is a process of seperatig the original message signal from the carrier signal.
But this is allowed for a certain bandwidth & amplitude only considering the power consumption and other factors of the recieving circuit.
So, Demodulation occurs first to limit the bandwidth and makes it faithfull for the Detector to perform its operation.
