In CMOS, what is the effect of varying the gate length in both AC and DC characteristics?
Does affect the current-carrying capacity of the device?

Thanks and regards,

Re: gate length

Hi,

Larger gate / device length >> Larger Delay
Larger device length (same w/l) >> larger output resistance (smaller Gds)
Larger device length >> better reliability in terms of hot carrier degradation.

Jitendra Dhasmana.

Re: gate length

Increasing gate length in turn increases channel resistance R=ρl/A... Thus increases propagation delay and inturn decreases maximum operating freq....in turn it also decreases current Id....

Re: gate length

hi all,

following relation gives you some idea about gate length.

1 Larger gate / device length >> Larger Delay

2 Larger device length (same w/l) >> larger output resistance (smaller Gds)

3 Larger device length >> better reliability in terms of hot carrier degradation.

thanx.....
