What is the differnce between 2.5D and 3D??

sorry but I'm really new to this...

2D is (x,y) or (y,z) or (x,z)

3D is (x,y,z)

Whats 2.5D? or Can it be even defined in this way? Am I thinking right?

OK, you’ll have to define the domain. In EM field simulation is like in the link I gave earlier. The basic idea is that the structure has complicated geometry in one plane (or parallel planes) let say (x,y) and has only simple uniform structures in the third dimension; the term is used for planar circuits like printed circuit boards. So it is actually (x,y,z) and sometimes is called planar 3D. In regular 3D the structure can have complicated shapes in any cut plane.
In mechanics is different.
