Analog design is a very broad term that covers almost all of electronics since even digital circuits rely on analog concepts. However, normally analog design is considered to include the design of circuitry that involves signals that vary considerably in amplitude from very small (nanovolts or less) to very high (kilovolts or more) over the full range of frequencies from DC to beyond GHz. Waveforms can vary from pure sine waves to triangle and square waves to arbitrary shaped waves. Functions involved with analog design include amplification, rectification, modulation, filtering, shaping, etc. RF design is a subset of analog design since it is considered to include only frequencies related to radio propagation; hence the designation RF for Radio Frequency). In the early days of electronics, RF could include frequencies from a few kiloHertz up to a few MegaHertz. Today, frequencies for radio span up to and beyond 10 GHz. To design a wireless communications IC requires general analog circuit knowledge since such an IC includes a wide variety of functions. The physical layout of such an IC can be critical to avoid problems with crosstalk and this requires analog design expertise. Digital design knowledge is also required since all current wireless standards are digital in nature; i.e. the input data to be transmitted is in digital format and the modulation schemes used are digital.

analogue design, digital design and RF design :)

so, a wireless communication chip is quite complex, it requires designers from every field...
 

in analog design we condier our circuit elements as lumped elements rather in rf design wavelengh of source is comparable to circuit element
