what is MIMO-OFDM standing for?

MIMO

What a wonderful and deep question!

OFDM: frequency selective channels make ISI on the transmitted data.
To combat ISI you can send data by OFDM. It shrinks the symbols on multiple adjacent but overlapping frequency bands (known as subcarriers). As the channel in each subcarrier is flat, there is no ISI.
MIMO: traditionally the data was being sent by one antenna and received by 1 antenna.
Well if you send your data by multiple antennas and also receive by multiple antenna, theoretically you can send more data without needing any extra bandwidth.

MIMO OFDM: combine both the above. Send multiple streams of data on multiple antennas by deploying OFDM technique.

Re: MIMO

Thank you very much for your reply. It would be nice of you if you could please brief about the benefits of it and some resource to learn the OFDM basics.

MIMO

benefits of OFDM:
1)the main one: Combat ISI effectively (theoretically it is fully cancelled) with a reasonably simple receiver. (You know that the traditional equalizers such as MMSE, ZF and DFE) become more complicated if the length of the frequency selective channel increases.
2) simple fabrication of the OFDM system.

benefits of MIMO:
1) the possibility of sending more data without extra bandwidth or
2) using the spatial diversity to increase the link reliability.

benefits of MIMO-OFDM: Combine the above benefits
