Dear all,

I often see that the function of "dump" is mentioned in Cadence related documentation. Could you give me some idea about what job this "dump" function can do? Thanks

i hope you are talking about VCD -Value change dump file...

A VCD file is an ASCII file that contains header information, variable definitions, and the value changes for all variables specified in the task calls.

Several system tasks can be inserted in the source description to create and control the VCD file.

This is a STANDARD format and is compatible between different waveform viewers etc. Also most of the simulators can write out VCD files - both VHDL & Verilog versions.

ikru26: Thanks for your reply. But in Cadence, it seems that the dump can abstract some information into an ASCII file. Eg. one can dump the technology file into a file to check the name of each layer. Is "dump" a computer jargon or sth.?
