What is characterization equipment used in electronics?

In many places I read about electronics testing IC laboratories and they mention "characterization equipment". What are the most important ones and how can I find the list of such equipment?(besides scopes and DMMs)
 

Almost all kind of measurement equipment can be used to characterize active and passive components.Depends on what type of characterization you're interested in..
