ziner diode

can anybody tell me what a zener diode is actually for ? i have heard of it so many times but have yet to really know it's theory of operation and also how it works and in what application it is used ? can anybody give me some examples ?

thank you

regards,
mengghee

reference voltage zener

a highly doped doiode which is used mainly as a voltage regulator...it present in all power supply circuits

what is zener

its a crude type of voltage regulator with regulated voltage defined by technology

diodes ziner

Zener diode is designed and fabricated to provide a specified breakddown voltage Vzo. The large current that may exist at breakdown can cause heating effects and catastrophic failure of the diode due to the large power dissipation in the device. However, this problem can be solved using a series ans/or parallel resistances.

what is zenerdiode

diode which is usually reverse biased ......

zinner diode pdf

hi
the zener diode is used for voltage regulation circuit that is maintaining constant voltage circuit i.e is if you want to maintan a constant voltage you can use the
zener diode

ziner diodes

named after zener, the diode breaks down when a maximum reverse voltage piv or peak inverse voltage is reached. the piv is special 2 a particular diode. the other concepts are zener breakdown and avalanche breakdown.

what is ziner diode?

As Kags says is true . The other factor is the current through the reversed biased zener diode. The voltage you see across the diode is acurate only if the current throught the diode is held at the correct bias . A resister of the correct value must be placed in series with the diode to limit the breakdown current

zener diodes back to back

one of the best application of ziner diods is for protection of volatage.
for example in logic circuits with a 5.1V zinner, you can pretect your circuit from harmfull shocks.

common voltage for zinner diode

UPTO 6V AS BREAKDOWN VOLTAGE,A DIODE IS SAID TO HAVE ZENER EFFECT IF IT IS MORE THAN THAT AVALANCHE EFFECT WILL PERSISTS

vzo zener diode

you can use a zener diode as a usual diode, but it has also an important feature.
It has a lower reverse breakdown voltage than a usual diode.

avalence diode

Zener diode is a heavily doped PN junction diode. it operates only under reverse bias conditions.it has a feature of avalence and zener break down.the break down voltage is less then 6v.

zener diode theory of operation

hi
zener diode is a highly doped diode. it is generally used in reversed biased condition. it's forward characteristics are same as any other diode, but it has some peculiar behaviour in case of reverse biased condition.once we compare the ratings on ordinary diode and that of a zener diode, we can draw the conclusion.
the reverse break down point of zener diode is zener breakdown which is generally of greater value. it can be used as voltage regulator
