can someone tell me what is a quantum well. plz dont give me wikipedia or any other similar encyclopedia links..(cuz i have seen them and i am still not clear).

also it would be helpful if someone cud explain what is a phonon..

Quantum well is the space where electrons can stay at lower energy than the outside of the space.
 

could you please elaborate on that like where it is generally used and also what is a phonon ????
 

one instance of a quantum well is for electron around a nucleus in an atom. Phonon is the quantum of heat or mechanical vibration.
