What happens if high water cooling temperature?

Hi,

I have a 5KW dc/dc converter and used process water as cooling medium. But now we will investigate what happens if we increase the temperature of the cooling water upto around +85 Celsius. The componenents in dc/dc converter are automative classified. What will happen with dc/dc converter? Thanks in advance!

It will get hotter (duh). Since you don't appear to know
the present temperature rise at the internal components,
not much more can be said.

If it were my project I'd begin with gluing thermocouples
to the case of every power handling / filtering component
(plus coolant inlet & outlet) and doing some full load &
overload testing.

Automotive ratings are like any other ratings, they
purport to tell you a safe limit under particular conditons.
What margin there might be, and whether you can count
on keeping it across lot and manufacturer, is a guess.
 

it will be less efficient in cooling the device. none the less, i believe it will still work. since we will consider the law of thermo dynamics, heat will still be desipated, but in a slower phace. try to measure the internal ambient of the converter. ussually the automotive specs is around 120degC.
