Can anyone explain what is inverter?

Can inverter mention as converter ?

Definition:
A converter or inverter is a device that accepts AC or DC power and converts/inverts it to another form of AC or DC power for direct utilization by a load or accumulation in an energy storage system.

In the common terminology the name "inverter" is used with regard to low-volt (12V or 24V) dc to (120 or 230/240V) ac converters as it inverts the usual proces of converting the mains voltage to whatever dc voltage is required ..

Also it convert 0Hz of DC to 50Hz or 60Hz of AC
