What does the term "gain" mean in reference to antenna?

Hello,

can any one explain me what is the Term "Gain" means in reference to Antenna?
and how does it affect the range between the modules.

Regarding your second question, if you use antennas with certain gains for both the transmission and the reception, it means for your system that for instance you can use lower transmitter power to cover a given distance than you would have to use when you had antennas with no or lower gains.
