A wound-rotor motor is a type of induction motor where the rotor windings are connected through slip rings to external resistances. Adjusting the resistance allows control of the speed/torque characteristic of the motor. Wound-rotor motors can be started with low inrush current, by inserting high resistance into the rotor circuit, as the motor accelerates, the resistance can be decreased.

Hello phatcreators,
slip rings need maintenance. This is more high in price than VFD and VDF is modern technology.
Slip ring motors are use for big cooling - or ice machines, for big fans and so on. These motors are strted one time and then they have to run a long time. For this application it is cheaper than VDF.

Hello phatcreators,
I mean for example, that slip ring motors are use for very big compressor units in industrial cooling maschines or in ventilation systems for mining or tunnel systems. There you don't need VFD because you only start the motor by hand and then it runs for a long time.
