Hi Guys:

What is the advantages of LC Oscillator in High Frequency application besides contributing to high Q factor?

Thank You

Rgds

advantages osc

LC oscillators cant be boasted of high Q factor as we have crystal oscillator available of very high Q.
But as currently crystals oscillators are available only till 50Mhz, hence for higher frequency we switch to LC oscilllators.
There advantages lie in their smaller size and ease of designing.
Any complex oscillator always uses the same formula for its components.
Also these are very cheap and provide satisfactory performance if designed properly.

Re: LC Osc Advantage

Hi Guys:

I would appreciate if the discussion is on the advantage of LC Osc in comparison of ring Osc in CMOS technology. How feasible is it to use the bondwire inductance in realizing the LC resonators?. Thank You

Re: LC Osc Advantage

the phase noise of the LC oscillator is much better than ring oscillator
but they consume much area " for spiral inductor " and " MOS varactor "

but with current technologies the use of Cu insted of AL made qualty factor of the inductor in high

Re: LC Osc Advantage

Hi Guys:

Any idea on the bond wire inductors... How feasible in utilizing it as a resonant component, it is reported that this bond wire inductor varies from 1nH to 1.6nH. Thanks in advance
