What are step to be followed in designing Equalizer?

Hello, Could you tell me what are the things I should know before designing an Equalizer and the step to be followed. Kind of a tutorial
How do we find out coefficient values of Equalizer coefficient filter?

Hey sorry for replying after long time. I had to work on other stuff.
My task is to design an LVDS with Pre-emphasis in TSMC 65 nm. I was only given these details. Rest everything (or whatever you have asked me) I have to take default values or what is feasible.

I can have one serial link capable of around 1.6 Gbps. If I want high speeds, I can combine several 1.6 Gbps serial links
