Hi,

im going here for a shot in the dark.... but...

I bought this treble booster at musikding... i put the pieces together followed the plans all correct.... the pedal actually works all good, but just for short.... after 20 minutes or so a loud hum appears on the background....

i contacted the company but they were not so helpfull...

i dont know where the problem lays.... i suppose that some sort of short circuit is happening... at the board if you look at it, its all solded correct... it might have a bit too much solder here and there, but apart from the ground, every where else no part is touching others by mistake...

could it be something like too much soldering???... grounds touching each other... or some capacitor flipped???... i dont know....

any ideas???

WHAT WOULD CAUSE AN LOUD HUM AFTER 20 MINUTES OR SO IN A FX PEDAL????

here is the parts list and plan:

cheers!

If it is built correctly, the problem would either be in the external power supply (if you are using one) or C4 is faulty.

If you are using an external (wall wart) power adapter, please check it's output is regulated 9V DC. If it's AC, don't use it at all and if it's not regulated you may find the voltage it is producing is too high and more than C4 can handle. It will gradually warm up and draw more power, hence causing hum after a while.

Brian.

Alright, thats a good point... im actually using an adapter from another fx pedal... which is 9.6 v 200mA .... that could be it then... i would give a try with other adapters and see what happens.... lets see.... thanks alot!

When you pull out the 9V power plug out of your pedal, if the hum dies away then its a loose earth in the pedal box. If it goes immediately, then its the power supply that is faulty. Have you the same problem with the pedal box that is supplying the power?

okay... it was totaly it!!!

i tried the pedal just with battery and no hum is to be heard...

i also found that the battery cable was touching the power supply cable.

i fixed it and tried just at home with a new supply... and seems its all good... any of this days i will try it loud at the hearsal room... but i guess the problem is fixed!!!

Cheers... thanks alot!
