HMI is a rather global term. Like "food".
It can be anything from LED to augumented reality, it can be pushbutton, mouse, keyboard, joystick, touchscreen..and many other..
It can be any optical, haptic, accoustic...

"Integrate HMI with microcontroller" means you are setting up a MODBUS server the HMI should talk to? But what's exactly the problem? Do you understand the protocol used by the HMI? How do you configure it? Are you sure your MODBUS implementation is correct? Did you check it with a test tool?
