this is the problem i'm facing, I sent in a signal through the rs232 cable into my laptop and to my dismay the realterm displayed a totally different signal.

I know this have something to do with the start bit, stop bit ,parity bit and the baud rate. But the problem is that i don't really get how the realterm program works and thus unable to remedy the problem. where can i find a manual or anything that will allow me to better understand this program.

anyway just for your info

the signal i generated is

11111111 01010101 00000000

when i check the databit -- >(7 bit)

the realterm program displayed

00000000 01010101 00000000

and at 6 bit it display

00000000 00010101 00000000

i'm sorry if i'm too vague , but i do appreciate your time and help :)

the problem has been solved , i thank you guys for your time :)
