Due to the high cost of a synchronous dynamo, I am considering to use an induction motor instead.
A 10HP synchronous dynamo is priced around Rs 37, 000 (600$) while the same rating induction motor is priced around Rs 18, 000 ie. 300$ (India).
I am well aware that compensating capacitors will be required, which will cost another, say 40$. And also since the generator is not connected to an infinite bus, a low power AC source will be required initially to supply the magnetization current. A 200VA low price inverter coupled with a 8 to 10AH, 12V battery should be ok for starting. Adding another, say 40$.
Is there a problem in this approach?
Please provide appropriate suggestions regarding the use of an induction motor in the generating mode.
