schematics 7106

Hello ,

I have a commonly used 3 1/2 LCD 7106 based digital panel meter(DPM) with me.I need to use it to measure and display the voltage in one of my battery powered (9V-0-9V) circuits.I do not have the schematics for this, but I think it would be the standard circuit.
I have a problem that if I use the same battery in my circuit to power the DPM the display shows -1.
If I use a separate battery and keep the battery grounds of the circuit and the DPM separate, then the display shows the correct reading.
I have attached a small schema of that which works and that which does not.
Is there anyway I can have a standard 7106 based DPM use the same supply and common GND as the measuring circuit?
Hope to have your ideas.
