In serial circuit current is same for all resistor, then what is the operations of resistor?

Re: Use of resistor in seriesl circuit?

resistor is used for the purpose of current limitation. as the value of resistance increases current flow decreses

Re: Use of resistor in seriesl circuit?

But in series circuit current is same for all resistor.
Yes, that's right.
Voltage across each resistor = current * resistance.
So if the resistors are different values, then the voltage across them will be different.

if resistor of equal resistance is used in series then only current flow in every resistance will be the same. other wise it will not be the same.
No. Maybe you are thinking of parallel circuit?

Re: Use of resistor in seriesl circuit?

No, they are all different in value.
The exercise ask you to find voltage, current, dissipated value of each element in the schematic, as well as the value of R2.

You have a single mesh, then the current flowing will be the same for all the components of the mesh (4 resistors as well as the generator). Due to the different value of each resistor they will have different voltage across and different power dissipation.
Remember that P=R*I^2 with I constant.
You have to start finding R2.
I don't know if RT=6000 ohm is the generator resistance and you are required to find optimum power transfer, then R1+R2+R3+R4=6000 and the current will be I=VT/(R1+R2+R3+R4+RT). Could you post the complete text ?

Re: Use of resistor in seriesl circuit?

Hi

In serial circuit current is same for all resistor, then what is the operations of resistor?

It will be used for decreasing the voltage . just consider you have 12 volt and you want decrease it and you just want small currents . ( for example 5 volt 10ma or perhaps driving an LED via that ) then we will use resistors in series or series circuit . or perhaps you want an some resistors which are not standard then you will try to use some resistors in series together in order to make your desired one . that's all
resistor is used for the purpose of current limitation. as the value of resistance increases current flow decreses
In series circuit it is completely wrong .

Re: Use of resistor in seriesl circuit?

It was very simple in series circuit all resistors are combined in to a single resistor so that if any one of the resistor increases the the (total are same current through) current in all resistors decreases...
